Top tips for making it happen!

So you have decided to make the change – congratulations! You want to get healthier, lose weight, feel better, etc. AWESOME! But, how do you do it? There is more that goes into all those things than just exercise and nutrition alone. Although those are the main obstacles, if that’s all there was to it, wouldn’t it be a lot easier!?

I officially began {again} my health and fitness journey in February of this year and started coaching {motivating and encouraging others to join me!} in March. Since then I have lost about 15 pounds – give or take. I am 5’3 and feeling SO much better without that extra weight. I am no expert, but I know what has worked for me and I wanted to share some of my tips for losing the weight and keeping it off! So lets do this…

  1. Figure out why you’re doing this. What is pushing you to make this change? Unless your answer resolves around yourself {I want to lose weight so I can feel more confident; better my health; be able to play with my kids; whatever suites you!} you will probably not stick to it. First and foremost, you need to make the agreement with yourself that that CAN change and you WILL.
  2. Make a plan! What’s purpose without a plan?? When we leave things up to chance, they don’t happen. Or they don’t happen as well as they could. Take the time to figure out what type of exercise works best for you, research clean eating and create a grocery list. Plan and prep your meals! You are in control of your choices – make smart ones! If you’re struggling in this area, I would love to help you.
  3. 80/20 rule: 80% of the time you should be eating clean, 20% of the time be flexible! Enjoy that cookie, ice cream, cake, whatever your “guilty pleasure” is. I obviously have a sweet tooth! In order for this to be a LIFESTYLE change, you need to allow yourself flexibility. This will be sustainable. It is unrealistic that you will never eat sweets again. Heck, I had chocolate after dinner! What’s also unrealistic is that just because you have that ____ your progress will back peddle. Not true! It is actually go for you to keep that 20% in your life because you are moderating it and not going crazy. You know what happens when you restrict yourself from something for too long – once you can get your hands on it, all bets are off! Make wise decisions and enjoy your life!
  4. Accountability partner! If you don’t have one, please find one!! It can be easy to talk yourself out of that workout or talk yourself into steering away from your meal plan, but it becomes more difficult when you have someone there to keep you in check. This person can be your spouse, best friend, mom, cousin, ME! We could all use that loving push in the right direction. It’s especially motivating to see progress WITH someone. Share your “why” and hold each other accountable. You will build a bond and stick to your goals. WIN WIN!
  5. Relax. I believe in you 110%! You can achieve anything you set your mind and heart to. But you are still human. Some days will be better than others. You may hit snooze instead of getting up early to workout. You may slip on your nutrition. Those things happen to everyone – don’t beat yourself up! Figure out what’s going on and adjust. It’s never too late or too early to get back on track. Don’t wait for next week or next month. Take a deep breath, give yourself a pep talk and KEEP GOING!

Now go out there and CRUSH your goals!!! Here’s to a healthier and happier you! If there’s anything I can do to help you on your journey, please don’t hesitate to reach out ❤
